MILLER BEATS HENDRYX BY A POINT FOR DIXIE BATTING TITLE
Elmer Miller,Outfielder of the Mobile team, won out over TIM HENDRYX of the Champion New Orleans Pelicans in the contest for the 1915 Batting honors of the Southern League.A difference of but a point seperates the pair, however, according to the official averages, and it is likely that had Miller played out the season,as did Hendryx, the story might have been a different one.The New York Yankees recured both players,Miller reporting to Manager Donovan before the Southern season closed, while Hendryx does not report until spring. It will be interesting to watch the progress of the two dixie rivals for a Yankee outfield berth next season.Hendryx was a better long distance hitter, but Miller had him bested on speed and was one of the leading base stealers of the league.Millers batting average was .326 in 129 games,While Hendryx hit 345 in 149 games. The complete averages credit Hendryx with 26 two baggers,14 three baggers and six home runs.Miller had 19 Two baggers,9 three baggers and 4 home runs.Miller stole 38 bases and Hendryx 25
